Description:

The Red River Waterway Commission, located in Natchitoches, Louisiana, is currently accepting applications for a Park Maintenance Technician-South which would be based out of Pineville, LA. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, with the possibility of future increases. JOB SUMMARY
Performs manual labor tasks required to operate and maintain RRWC recreation areas and property.
Duties include general operation, maintenance and repair of buildings, facilities, grounds, and equipment
throughout the Red River Waterway District.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

  • Make minor repairs to the interior/exterior of buildings and facilities and maintain equipment employing basic skills in the plumbing, carpentry, electrical, mechanical and related fields
  • Maintain, and make minor repairs to lawn mowers, appliances, chainsaws, pumps, trucks, tractors, including ensuring proper lubricant levels, replacing and adjusting minor worn or damaged parts (belts, plugs, fuses, hoses, etc.)
  • Start, operate, maintain and check for safe operation of a wide variety of items including construction equipment, skid steer, tractors, trucks, machinery, various implements, small engines, lawn mowers, hand tools, pumps, chainsaws, trimmers, power tools, etc.
  • Perform basic road and parking lot maintenance by clearing drains, spreading road surface material,
    filling potholes, placement of signs, repairing fences, painting traffic control lines, removing trees and limbs, etc.
  • Perform maintenance and repair work on disc golf courses, playground equipment, pickleball courts, and other park improvements
  • Inspect and maintain and/or repair asphalt, singletrack, and multi-use trails including bridges, berms, jumps, crossings, etc.
  • Clear limbs, pine straw, leaves and other debris from trails using blower or other means
  • Clear downed trees, clear brush, and trim limbs and encroaching foliage to maintain clear trail corridor
  • Manage and/or clear grass and weeds on trails using weed eater and/or herbicides
  • Mow, trim grass, perform landscaping duties, clean silt and debris from boat ramps, empty garbage
    cans, remove limbs, debris, and garbage from parks and parking lots, etc.
  • Repair, clean, and maintain restroom facilities, pavilions and other park improvements
  • Assist with inventory control of equipment and supplies and in preparation and facilitation of events
  • Coordinate with RRWC contractors, city, parish, and state personnel, etc.
  • Interact with the public as necessary
  • Operate RRWC vehicle to travel to various recreation areas and facilities
  • Work occasional weekends or evenings to accommodate project needs
  • Perform park ranger or other duties as necessary or as directed by Maintenance Supervisor or O&M

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including frequent heavy lifting (including lifting of up to 50 pounds, occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds, and occasional group lifting in excess of 100 pounds), hiking/biking long distances, and working in adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to perform basic operation and maintenance duties and operate standard maintenance equipment in a safe manner
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and to operate in groups or teams when necessary
  • Ability to interact with the public
  • Ability to operate without direct oversight when necessary
  • Possession of, or ability to learn, basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and mechanical skills

QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS

  • High school diploma, or its equivalent, plus at least one year experience or training in the building
    construction trade, general building maintenance, trail building, or in the repair or maintenance of
    mechanical equipment
  • A commercial certification for herbicide application is a plus
  • Prior experience in trail construction/maintenance, landscaping, or construction is a plus
  • Prior experience and/or certification in park or recreation management is a plus
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel is a plus
  • Louisiana drivers license with good driving record
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
